The Viceregal Palace

Concealed by the resplendent fa?ade of the palace of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal, lies the luxurious reception area of Ananda. Popularly known as the Viceregal Palace, it has played host to some of India’s most renowned heads of state, during the Maharaja’s reign. Completely restored, the Viceregal Palace is the ultimate statement in subtle style.

The reception area warms your heart and soul, as you are welcomed into the Ananda family by your courteous and efficient front desk staff. Far from any ordinary hotel check-in area, the splendor of the palace takes you back in time to the era of royalty. Relaxation and Rejuvenation at Ananda begins right from the moment you check-in, sipping the refreshing spa signature welcome drink. Whether it is the traditional ‘aarti’ welcome or the contemporary professionalism of our staff, your first impression of the Viceregal Palace will leave you reminiscing about kings and royal splendor.

Adjacent to the reception area, is the grand Viceregal Tea Lounge. Care has been taken to retain the old-world charm and understated elegance of the lounge, an ideal venue for a splendid cup of Darjeeling tea. Enjoy a quiet afternoon alone or with friends, as you admire the life size portraits of the erstwhile Maharaja and of other famous guests.

Also located in the Viceregal Palace is the Maharaja’s billiards room, housing the oldest billiards table in India, dating back to a 100 years. Stunningly crafted in wood, the table has the unparalleled distinction of witnessing some of the most famous political personages, all of whom were guests of the Maharaja. The walls of the billiards room are adorned with pictures of some of these guests. Whether you are a billiards enthusiast or an antique lover, the billiards table is sure to satisfy your quest for the historic.

The Viceregal Palace also features the Viceregal Hall, the original skating rink of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal. Now used as the preferred venue for conferences and management retreats, with natural sunlight streaming into the interiors of the Hall, the atmosphere is one of warmth and cozy comfort. The Viceregal Hall is the ideal venue for large gatherings, comfortably accommodating 140 people.

Deluxe Room

Newly renovated, these 45 sqm. deluxe rooms with a private balcony has views of Maharaja's Palace. Each room is equipped with a luxurious King size bed, a comfortable Settee with a footrest facing the balcony, a 42? LCD TV, elegant writing and bedside tables. The large private balcony has a chaise-lounge for complete relaxation and a tea table. Each room features spacious walk-in closets and perfectly appointed bathrooms with life size mirrors and a luxurious bathtub with an LCD TV and windows overlooking views of the Garden. All rooms are equipped with DVD player, tea coffee maker, well stocked mini bar with healthy options, electronic safe and complimentary high speed Wi-Fi internet access.

Garden Suite

The 3 Garden Suites face either the Valley or the Maharaja’s palace. These 2-bay suites feature tastefully appointed bedrooms with attached sitting rooms and large bathrooms with tranquil garden views. Secluded private gardens situated to overlook the valley, add to the charm and privacy of these suites.


Ananda Suite

Housed on the ground floor and overlooking the valley, the 3-bay Ananda Suite spells luxury and enchantment. With luxuriously fitted bathrooms overlooking the view and its own private sitting and dining areas, the suite also has a large private garden with a gazebo seating, which is perfect for intimate dinners and leisurely breakfasts. The Ananda Suite also has an extra powder room with a shower in addition the main bathroom.

Viceregal Suite

In the precincts of the Maharaja’s Palace, the Viceregal Suite is a perfect retreat for the connoisseur. It comprises of a spacious sitting and dining area and a plush bedroom featuring a period four-poster bed. The attached dressing room and bathroom are beautifully appointed with antique fittings and furniture. With its own private terrace and a roof top gazebo seating overlooking the sloping landscaped gardens and the distant Ganga Valley, staying at the Viceregal Suite takes you back into India’s regal past.

Ananda Villas

Named after the great mountain ranges Himalaya and Shivalik and the river Ganga that sustains the people of the Valley, these beautiful Villas are a dreamer’s escape.

Two 2-bedroom villas (1800 sq. ft.) and one 1-bedroom villa (1200 sq. ft), each elegantly appointed with a living room, a pantry for the butler, a dressing room and a large bathroom featuring a private sauna with an unhampered view of the private swimming pool.

The 40 Sq Metres private pools are surrounded with a deck area equipped with comfortable lounge beds. Ideal for a quiet retreat into a tranquil environment.

Yoga & Meditation

Yoga at Ananda, luxury hotel in The Himalayas, is completely pure and traditional in form, stemming from the roots of Hatha yoga and adapting it to suit individual needs. It is a disciplined science teaching the techniques of the renowned Bihar School of Yoga encompassing all aspects of life in different ways and levels to balance the mind, body and spirit. Our experienced Yoga teachers are trained to understand your personal objectives and goals during your stay at Ananda and beyond. They will then design a specific yoga and meditation program for you to assist you through your journey of life, balancing your being and assisting you to achieve health and well being.

Getting There

Ananda is located on a hill overlooking th/']0e ancient spiritual city of Rishikesh.

By Air
There are frequent flights from Delhi International Airport to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. Flight time is 45 minutes followed by a 40 min picturesque drive to Ananda in the Himalayas.

Jet Airways, Spice Jet, Air India and Indigo operate daily flights from Delhi to Dehradun. Please check their updated schedules on their respective websites. (Jet Airways, Spicejet, Air India, Indigo)

By Train
Daily trains operate from Delhi. The train journey takes 4.5 hours from Delhi to Haridwar followed by a 90 minute drive to Ananda in the Himalayas. Please check updated train schedules on www.irctc.co.in

By Helicopter
Ananda in the Himalayas can organise helicopter transfers from Delhi and other specific locations to Ananda. The journey from Delhi to Ananda’s private helipad (5 minutes away) takes approximately 2 hours. Please contact Ananda Reservations (reservations@anandaspa.com) for further information.

Drive From New Delhi
The drive to Ananda from Delhi takes approximately 7-8 hours depending on traffic conditions. Although a few of our guests do chose to come by road we do not recommend this as traffic is difficult to estimate.

Please note that the car transfers can be provided for pick-up or drop from the Railway Station or Airport. Please inform Ananda Reservations of your requirements and the respective transfer rates will be provided.
